The working group at the Legal Issues Committee held the first sitting to identify the issues, deriving from the legislative initiatives of the Staff of the Public Broadcaster on: clear dissociation of the rights and obligations between the Board of Trustees and Director General of the Public Broadcaster, election of the Board of Trustees etc.
The group members noted that the regulations shall be improved into the flexible provisions to allow the PB developing and meeting the modern requirements.
As the Chair of the Committee and the Head of the Working Group, Eka Beselia noted, sundry persons will be added to the working group and the list of the issues might be extended. “We worked on some issues creating legislative gaps and problems – internal activity in terms of dissociation of rights, as well as election of the Board of Trustees. The proposals were introduced and for the next meeting we will be able to move to the contextual part. We will engage other experts to work on the particular changes. The main task is to clearly define the objective of the activity of the PB to express the primary essence established under the law and not to be prevented in independently and impartially serving the social interests”.
The decision to set up the working group was made by the Committee on January 6 when considering the draft on Broadcasting initiated by the PB Staff.
