Tamar Khulordava: the law shall ensure stricter state policy towards the persons and organizations facilitating illegal migration

The Chair of the EU Integration Committee, Tamar Khulordava met with the Swedish Ambassador, H.E. Ulrik Tideström to discuss illegal migration and increased number of asylum-seekers from Georgia to Sweden in 2018.

We discussed increased number of asylum-seekers from Georgia to Sweden, which is particularly noteworthy providing that it may serve as the subject for political manipulations as of common European elections in May, 2019 by the radical and ultra-rightwing forces”, - T. Khulordava noted.

This dynamics may entail political problems, which may cause annulment of visa free regime for Georgia.

Neither EU nor Sweden want to terminate visa free for Georgia or to even discuss it. So, we keep collaborating with our partners discussing possible legal and administrative measures to discharge the situation. Stricter state policy will be one of the measures towards the persons and organizations facilitating illegal migration”, - she noted.

The parties touched upon public awareness in this direction. “I would like to underline that seeking asylum in Sweden is useless. Today, the Ambassador confirmed that despite the increased number of the seekers, the applications are not satisfied. However, this method gains no outcomes, so I call on our citizens to abstain from extra financial liabilities only to be deported back with certain restriction time to enter Schengen. It is responsibility of every citizen to maintain the visa free travel”, - T. Khulordava stated.
