Project Goals and Objectives

 

Project Strategy - Promote democratic development through gender equality in politics and provide a platform for increased regional co-operation between the South Caucasus States.

 

Project Tasks:

  • To institutionalize gender equality in the government structures and support the development of gender policies in Georgia;
  • To build women’s capacity in decision-making positions in order to facilitate their active participation in political processes and facilitate a dialogue on gender issues within political structures;
  • To support the South Caucasus regional co-operation, information sharing and strategy development on gender issues.

 

Project Components:

  • Permanent structures established within government for gender equality and the advancement of women;
  • Gender responsive national legislation and specific gender policy;
  • National Action Plan on gender equality and the advancement of women;
  • Improved gender equality and increased representation within political parties;
  • Increased public awareness of gender equality issues;
  • Regional cooperation among NGOs and Governments in the South Caucasus.

 

Advisory Council on Gender Issues under the Chairperson of the Parliament of Georgia:

  • The Council is the only institutional mechanism established in Georgia within the framework of Gender and Politics Programme in the South Caucasus. The council  brings together non-governmental and governmental representatives;
  • The Council acts as a lobbying unit for gender issues and focuses on ensuring gender mainstreamed legislation and elaborating proposals and recommendations on National Gender Policy;
  • The Council observes the implementation of the international agreements and conventions involving the gender equality issues;
  • The Council cooperates closely with international and local organizations working on gender issues.
