E. Beselia met with the Deputy-Head of the Human Rights Protection Service of Chicago City Administration, Kenneth Gant. The main topic of the meeting was active struggle against discrimination. Mr. Gann emphasized structures and functions of Chicago Human Rights Protection Service and the response forms thereto. He was interested in statistics of human rights violation in Georgia. E. Beselia introduced the main directions of the Committee and the topics, which were numerous after 2012 Parliamentary. According to her, the main claims concerned illegal detention, unfair sentencing and illegal dismissal. As she noted, the reforms are undertaken in Georgia, aiming at protection of human rights. “We had the legislation built on severe criminal policy. Now we gradually transfer to liberal legislation oriented on human rights protection”, - she stated. According to her, US Justice System is the model, dignified with high degree of trust and independence. “We have implemented many legislative changes according to American model”, - she stated. Mr. Gann visits Georgia within the scope of Professional Fellows Program and meets with NGOs and Governmental structures. |
