The
ruins of the Geguti Palace, an extremely interesting monument of secular
architecture of the epoch of feudalism, lie seven kilomel from Kutaisi on the
bank of the river Rioni. The Geguti Palace is first mentioned in chronicles of the 1 century. It was the winter residence of kings and its inhabits included David the Builder, Georgy III and Queen Tamara. Only ruins of the palace survived to our days, but its in architectural forms were recreated by scientific research. Work been done to preserve this monument. The architecture of the Geguti Palace is evidence both of builder's creative quest and of his deep knowledge of the tradition Georgian architecture. This structure also reveals semblance \ structures of the early feudal period in countries of the Orient raises extremely interesting questions of medieval Georgia's cult ties with other countries. |
