The
temple Khakhuli. Location – the big monastery known as a prominent
cultural center (southern Georgia, on the territory of Turkey at the present
time). The chronicle informs that the monastery was founded and King David
Kuropalati built the temple in the latter half of the 10-th century. Rich and
highly artistic cuttings, which appear on the facades, are typical for the
second heyday of the medieval Georgian architecture. The décor of the southern
window with the high relief image of an eagle is special. Chapels
are surrounding the big church, one of which is dated with 10-the century. The
temple's dimensions (with vestibules) from outside are: length-- approximately
35 m, width in the west part - 23,7 m, in the middle – 18,5 m. |
