Elguja Amashukeli

Painter-sculptor. Academician, Peoples' Painter of Georgia.

Amashukeli was born in Tbilisi in 1928. He graduated from Tbilisi State Academy
of Arts in 1955. He is an author of monuments: "Mother of Georgia" in
Tbilisi, 'Monument of Glory" in Poti, design of the entrance in
metro station "Rustaveli" in Tbilisi, monuments in memory of Vakhtang Gorgasali
and Niko Pirosmani in Tbilisi, David the Builder in Kutaisi.
He is also an author of book "The Sixth Sense" (1981 ), "Letters of Art" (1984).

Elguja Amashukeli is the Laureate of Soviet Union State Prize, Gogebashvili Prize and
Worlds' Competition (1970, Sofia). In 1981-1996 - Chairman of the Georgian Painters'Union.
