Agrarian Issues Committee Holds Field Session in Mtskheta

The Agrarian Issues Committee held an offsite session in the village of Jighaura, Mtskheta Municipality, at the premises of the Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture.

During the session, Levan Ujmajuridze, Director of the LEPL Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture under the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, presented the center’s annual report.

L. Ujmajuridze reviewed the center’s activities carried out in 2024 and outlined planned initiatives for 2025. He emphasized the core directions of scientific research, the structure and objectives of the center, and ongoing projects. He highlighted that the Jighaura base houses unique collections of grapevine and fruit crop varieties.

“Key projects implemented last year focused on identifying and preserving plant and animal genetic resources, strengthening gene banks, and introducing modern technologies into farming practices", - L. Ujmajuridze stated.

Chairman of the Agrarian Issues Committee, Gela Samkharauli, noted that the Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture was established through the initiative of Bidzina Ivanishvili and the Cartu Foundation.

“The Agrarian Issues Committee continues its tradition of visiting regions and engaging with local communities. The center has operated since 2007 and works in various fields, with special focus on viticulture and winemaking. Today, more than 400 Georgian and around 350 international grape varieties are cultivated and preserved here", - G. Samkharadze clarified.

The committee acknowledged the presented report.

The session was attended by parliamentary interns and members of the Students' Parliament, who were also given a tour of the research center.
