Aleksandre Elisashvili, the Chair of the political group - "Citizens", presented Levan Ioseliani, a member of the group, Vice-Speaker of the parliament, as a candidate for a public defender.

"The actual procedure for choosing candidates for Public Defender, the day on which it will be disclosed, and the day of the election are all still unknown. In any case, the new norm does not apply; each party is free to choose its own nominee. We had to make a very tough choice, but I am confident that it was the best one for the nation. There aren't many members of this parliament—possibly only one—around whom an agreement can be reached. Levan Ioseliania, a close friend and teammate of mine, possesses the skills, expertise, and capacity necessary to win 90 votes or more”, - Aleksandre Elisashvili stated at the briefing held today.

As he noted, they had some consultations and communication with both the opposition forces and the ruling party.

"Before entering politics, Levan Ioseliani worked as a lawyer, therefore he is familiar with the subject of human rights. In an extremely divisive parliament, I sincerely hope that we will be able to carry out one of the 12 recommendations and close the gap left by the previous unsuccessful vote. No of how much the ruling party and the opposition despise one another, the implementation of all 12 principles is a must for candidate status”, - the MP stated.
