Beka Odisharia attended the presentation of the Book “Heydar Aliyev and Georgia”

The National Library of the Parliament, organized by the Writers’ Union of Georgia and the State Translation Center of Azerbaijan, hosted a presentation of the bilingual book “Heydar Aliyev and Georgia”, dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Heydar Aliyev.


The Chair of the Diaspora and Caucasus Issues Committee, Beka Odisharia addressed the attendees, stating about his pleasure to participate in the event as the Chair of the Committee, one of the key directions of which is the development of the regional (Caucasian) policy.


“The Committee aims to facilitate friendship between the Caucasian nations and enhancement of neighboring relations. In this context, the third President of Azerbaijan, Heydar Aliyev is a truly prominent political figure in the modern Caucasus. He was a politician of high professionalism and it is important that his 100th anniversary was celebrated at an international level this year. The half-century of the political activity of Heydar Aliyev had a vast fora. His efforts and partnership facilitated the enhancement of the Georgia-Azerbaijan neighborhood relation. With the participation of Heydar Aliyev and the regional leaders and through the strategic partnership of Georgia and Azerbaijan, the international projects as follows have been realized: Baku-Supsa Pipeline, Baku–Tbilisi–Erzurum Pipeline, Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan Pipeline etc.”, - he noted adding the fact that numerous ethnical Azerbaijani live in old district of Tbilisi.


“I, being a Single Mandate MP for Mtatsminda-Krtsanisi, am honored to hold systematical relation with them. I often participate in traditional holidays and cultural events. The bust for Heydar Aliyev is erected in the middle of Old Tbilisi as a symbol of a steadfast friendship between Georgia and Azerbaijan people. I express my gratitude to the authors of the Book, which in a comprehensive manner reflects the particular attitude of Heydar Aliyev toward Georgia and I believe, it will be interesting for wider society”, - he stated.


The ceremony was attended by the representatives of the creative intelligentsia of Georgia and Azerbaijan: the People's Writer of Azerbaijan, Afag Masud; the translator of “Knight in the Panther’s Skin” into Azerbaijani language, Imir Mammadli; writers Makvala Gonashvili, Revaz Mishveladze, David Shemokmedeli, Bagatur Arabuli, Erekle Sagliani, Demiko Loladze, and the representatives of arts sphere.
