The meeting of the Gender Equality Council on the Aspects of the Legal Expertise of Violation against Women

Commissions and councils 20 May 2021
The meeting of the Gender Equality Council on the Aspects of the Legal Expertise of Violation against Women

The Gender Equality Council presided by the Chair, Nino Tsilosani, and the UN Women Georgia Office representatives held the working meeting with the Levan Samkharauli National Forensics Bureau to discuss the aspects of the legal expertise of the violation against women.

“The meeting was very productive. The issue we discussed is covered under the oversight and interest of the Council – it is the provision of the legal and medical expertise for the women victims of violence and the related problems. Studying this problem, we inquired information from the NGOs about their monitoring related to the lack of experts, as well as the gender of the experts as the matter of fact is that women victims often are exposed to stress when they deal with the experts of another gender. We heard information about the plans and discussed the deficit of the experts, though we will keep cooperating with the Bureau to increase the number of experts, especially experts of female gender and to increase the gender sensitivity amongst them. We also discussed the necessity of certain legal changes we intend to develop in cooperation with the UN Women”, - N. Tsilosani stated.
