Irakli Mezurnishvili Participates in Legal Affairs and International Cooperation Committee Meeting of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation

On 29 April, in Skopje, the capital of North Macedonia, the meeting of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC) Legal Affairs and International Cooperation Committee took place. Irakli Mezurnishvili, Head of the Permanent Delegation of the Parliament of Georgia to the BSEC Parliamentary Assembly, participated in the session.

The main topic of discussion at the committee meeting was combating organised crime in the Black Sea region. During the session, the head of the Georgian delegation addressed the delegates.

"Organised crime undermines the fundamental values of society, hampers economic, social, cultural, and political development, contradicts the principles of the rule of law, and poses a threat to national and regional security. Therefore, fighting organised crime remains one of Georgia’s top priorities. The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia steadfastly continues to fulfil its commitment to deploy all necessary resources to ensure an effective and comprehensive response against organised crime. To this end, the Ministry is continuously working to align Georgia's legal and institutional frameworks concerning organised crime with the legislation of the European Union.
The implementation of the right state policies ensures the formation of a democratic, social, and rule-of-law-based state.

Organised crime is a global problem that requires a global response. Strengthening international cooperation is crucial to combat organised crime. Today's session provides an excellent opportunity for exchanging views and sharing best practices, so that together we can ensure a safer and fairer region for all", - Irakli Mezurnishvili stated.

During the meeting, the Committee discussed the draft report and recommendations on combating organised crime, which will be officially adopted at the Assembly’s plenary session scheduled for June this year in Baku.
