The Committee discussed and approved the Draft Law on the Protection of Family Values and Minors for the II reading.

The Draft stipulates the issues related to marriage, adoption and foster care, gender-affirming surgeries, an indication of gender in state documents, education, dissemination of information, public assemblies and manifestations, and neglect of sex differences within the labor relations.

At that, the Draft establishes May 17 as the Day of the Family Sanctity and Respect of Parents. The II reading included the specifications of the terms and editorial remarks.

Pursuant to the Draft, marriage is the voluntary union of a man and a woman for the purpose of the creation of a family, which meets the requirements stipulated under the legislation of Georgia; the registration and recognition under the legal act of other forms of the union shall be inadmissible.

Besides, the Draft prohibits the adoption by persons that attribute themselves to none of the biological genders or different sexes and/or the sexual orientation of which does not pertain to the category of homosexuality.

The Draft is to become effective on the 60th days upon promulgation.
