The Activity Report of the National Agency for Cultural Heritage Preservation introduced to the Culture committee

The Director General of the National Agency for Cultural Heritage Preservation, Tea Oniani, introduced the activity report to the Culture Committee.

The reporter provided the key directions and the scheduled activities.

As she noted, by coordinating with the Culture Ministry, the amendments to the Law on Cultural Heritage are being developed for the establishment of a respective legal framework for the monitoring and inspection in the cultural heritage sphere.

The reporter introduced the account on the preservation and restoration of the cultural heritage monuments and the lingering challenges.

According to her, yet another Georgian Intangible Cultural Heritage monument is to be enrolled on the World Heritage List.

““In the near future, we will have another monument inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List as intangible cultural heritage — ‘Georgian Wheat Culture: Traditions and Rituals’, which is a great recognition for our intangible cultural heritage”, - she stated.

Giorgi Gabunia, Chair of the Committee, noted that it is necessary to jointly analyze the existing problems and ensure the active involvement of relevant agencies in solving them.

“Discussing the problems is essential. It is important that the National Agency for Cultural Heritage Preservation, the Culture Ministry, the Parliament, and the municipalities all be involved in addressing these issues. Together, we must work to protect and restore the monuments of our cultural heritage”, - stated Giorgi Gabunia.

The Committee took note of the report.
