Meeting of Maia Bitadze, Maka Botchorishvili and David Songulashvili with the Director of the Energy Community

The Chair of the Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Committee, Maia Bitadze; the Chair of the EU Integration Committee, Maka Botchorishvili; and the Chair of the Sector Economy and Economic Policy Committee, David Songulashvili met with the Director of the Energy Community, Artur Lorkowski.


As noted, A. Lorkowski, within the framework of his visit to Georgia, intends to consider the issues of energy, environmental protection and climate with the respective institutions.


The parties overviewed the fulfillment of the commitments assumed under the Constituent Agreement of the Energy Community and the Association Agreement.


M. Bitadze dwelt on the monitoring of the emissions of greenhouse gases, reporting and verification system establishment, which serves for the mitigation of greenhouse gases and the preparation of the country for the emission trade, as well as the EU integration of Georgia.


D. Songulashvili accentuated the encouragement of the energy market and the opening of the daily markets for the improvement of the price mechanism.


As M. Botchorishvili noted, Georgia attaches particular attention to cooperation with the EU in various sectors and the partnership within the Energy Union is of utmost importance in this context.


“The steps taken for years, serving for the EU approximation of Georgia, will play a crucial role in the EU accession of the country. At the meeting today, it was reaffirmed that Georgia is a noble partner, aspired to bona fide fulfilling the international commitments, which, naturally, facilitates further development of energy sector in the country”, - M. Botchorishvili noted
