Mariam Jashi: participation of women in politics and economy is of utmost importance for development of the country

MP Mariam Jashi attended the International Conference “Elimination of Gender Impediments and Economic Empowerment of Women” organized by the International School of Economics at TSU (ISET) in cooperation with the Eastern European and Developed Economies Forum.

At the panel discussion dedicated to empowerment of women in South Caucasus, M. Jashi overviewed the current situation in Georgia. “It is scientifically confirmed that the more women are engaged in politics, the higher is democracy quality in the country; and the more women are engaged in economic activity, the stronger is the economic wealth of the country. Thus, participation of women in politics and economy is paramount for development of the country. Despite the girls and women starting from the kindergarten up to the universities, are equally engaged in education system, still there are more women employed in some sectors than men (for instance, in kindergartens and schools). The pay gap between men and women is at least 30%, which is a significant challenge”, - she noted.

The attendees discussed the ways of elimination impediments to gender equality and stressed the Eastern European region and developing economies.
