Mariam Lashkhi Participated in an Event Dedicated to the Georgian Language Day

Chair of the Education, Science and Youth Affairs Committee, Mariam Lashkhi, delivered a speech at an event dedicated to the Georgian Language Day.

Mariam Lashkhi congratulated the participants on the Georgian Language Day. In her address, she spoke about the significance of the Georgian language, the history of its preservation and protection, as well as the uniqueness of the Georgian alphabet and its international recognition.

“The unity, dedication, and love of the Georgian people made it possible to preserve the language and protect its status as the official language. April 14 is not just a date on the calendar. This day is a symbol of our national identity. It is a matter of pride that the Georgian alphabet is one of the 14 alphabets existing in the world—unique and bearing a centuries-old tradition. It is noteworthy that the Georgian alphabet is inscribed on UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage list and is the only one with three living scripts”, - stated Mariam Lashkhi.

The participants were also addressed by Deputy Education, Science and Youth Minister Zviad Gabisonia, Director of the Arnold Chikobava Institute of Linguistics at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University Nana Machavariani, and Chairman of the State Language Department Giorgi Alibegashvili.

As part of the event, representatives of ethnic minorities were awarded certificates for passing the Georgian language exam. A panel discussion was held on the topic “Scientific Achievements in Kartvelian Studies.” Additionally, video presentations showcasing the activities of Kartvelian studies centers operating abroad were screened.

The event dedicated to the Georgian Language Day was organized on the initiative of the Education, Science and Youth Ministry.

The event was attended by Rima Beradze, Deputy Chair of the parliamentary faction “Georgian Dream,” as well as representatives of the executive and academic communities.
