Parliament Supports Amendment to the Law on National Security Policy Planning and Coordination Rules in Third Reading

Plenary 26 Jun 2025
Parliament Supports Amendment to the Law on National Security Policy Planning and Coordination Rules in Third Reading

Parliament, in an expedited procedure and at the third reading, supported the amendments to the Law of Georgia on the Planning and Coordination of National Security Policy with 83 votes in favour.

According to the amendments, the apparatus of the National Security Council will be dissolved as of 1 September 2025. Furthermore, it was established that the coordinating authority for the planning of national security policy will be the Government of Georgia.

The law was supplemented with a new provision, defining the National Situation Room as a facility equipped with appropriate technical and technological means, which is activated as necessary during crisis situations posing threats to national interests. It serves as a hub for receiving and processing data — including video and audio signals — from the incident site and other possible sources, from which the Prime Minister of Georgia manages the situation at the political level.
