Working Group on the Protection and Development of the State Language held Meeting at Parliament

The second meeting of the Working Group on the Protection and Development of the State Language, established under the Education, Science and Youth Affairs Committee, was held at the Parliament of Georgia.

The meeting focused on improving the Organic Law on the State Language and the Law on Advertising. Participants noted that the legal regulation and standardization of the state language are essential prerequisites for its effective and comprehensive functioning.

Members of the Working Group also discussed the importance of the digitalization of the norms of the Georgian literary language, the promotion of the state language, and the further development of the Terminology Bank. They also heard a report on the activities of the State Language Department.

According to Mariam Lashkhi, Chair of the Education, Science and Youth Affairs Committee and Head of the Working Group, the group's objective is to develop recommendations aimed at strengthening the protection and development of the state language. These include the consideration of legislative amendments and the preparation of a package of recommendations for relevant state institutions. She further noted that, given the scope and significance of the issues under consideration, it would be appropriate to extend the Working Group's mandate.

The meeting also addressed the protection of the Kartvelian languages, as well as the importance of coordinated cooperation among the State Language Department, the Institute of Linguistics, and other relevant institutions.
