Parliament Passes Draft Amendment to the Law on Weapons in First Reading

Plenary 01 აპრილი 2025
Parliament Passes Draft Amendment to the Law on Weapons in First Reading

The Parliament reviewed and adopted, in the first reading, the draft law on amendments to the Law of Georgia on Weapons, with 80 votes in favour.

The draft was presented during the session by Greta Tsitsava, Deputy Chair of the parliamentary faction “Georgian Dream”. The proposed amendments introduce stricter regulations concerning signal weapons and their ammunition. Specifically, the manufacturing and trade of signal weapons and their ammunition will become licensed activities.

Furthermore, several activities will be subject to authorisation, including: the acquisition of a signal weapon by an individual (with the right to possess and carry); the import and export of a signal weapon and/or its ammunition by foreign nationals; the import or export of signal weapons and/or ammunition by Georgian citizens (excluding transit and re-export); among others.

The legislative proposal also introduces amendments to the provisions of the Law of Georgia on Weapons regulating issues related to weapons licensing and authorisation.

In connection with this draft law, amendments will be introduced to five additional laws.
