Meeting of Parliamentary Majority with Representatives of Venice Commission
The members of the Parliamentary Majority convened with the delegates from the Venice Commission, who were on an official visit to Georgia. The primary focus of the meeting revolved around the proposed legislation concerning deoligarchization.
As stated by Irakli Kobakhidze, the Leader of the Parliamentary Majority, the draft bill had been submitted to the Venice Commission for the second occasion.
"We have resubmitted the deoligarchization bill to the Venice Commission for the second time. Initially, we forwarded a replica of the Ukrainian law, following which we received six crucial recommendations from them. These recommendations were duly considered and incorporated into a revised draft, which was subsequently sent back to the Venice Commission. We are currently awaiting the final conclusion from the Venice Commission, which is expected to be delivered in early June. Consequently, by the end of June, we anticipate the opportunity to formally approve this law”, - Irakli Kobakhidze stated.
According to the Leader of the Parliamentary Majority, the meeting was about systemic and personal approaches.
"We have emphasized the significance of adopting a systematic approach, as we firmly believe it to be crucial. While we have already been implementing a systematic approach and have made significant strides in this endeavor, it is evident from the 12 points raised by the European Commission that our current efforts are insufficient. Therefore, we are prepared to demonstrate our commitment to a personalized approach by introducing a complementary law. We will engage in further discussions on this matter. Once again, we will await the conclusion and, accordingly, aim to pass the de-oligarchization law by the conclusion of June", - Irakli Kobakhidze noted.
The members of the Parliamentary Majority, the Chairman of the Legal Issues Committee, Anri Okhanashvili and the Chair of the EU Integration Committee, Maka Botchorishvili participated in the meeting with the representatives of the Venice Commission.
