Shalva Papuashvili: 300,000 Georgians have made the ultimate sacrifice for the protection of our nation against fascism and Nazism

H.E. Shalva Papuashvili, Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, in the company of the Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, President Mikheil Kavelashvili, and Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze was visiting the Veterans’ Culture and Recreation Park (Kikvidze Park) to extend congratulations to the war veterans on the triumph over fascism.
“On the 80th anniversary of the triumph over fascism, the greatest victory achieved through the immense contribution of our nation, we commemorate this pivotal moment. Three hundred thousand Georgians made the ultimate sacrifice in these battles, defending our nation against fascism and Nazism. Their valiant efforts have paved the way for the liberation of Europe from Nazism, ensuring that Europe would not exist in the way we see it today without their unwavering dedication. Therefore, it is imperative for all of us to hold in high regard and express our gratitude for this day and the valour of the Georgian people in their triumph over Nazism during World War II,” - he declared.
The representatives of the legislative and executive authorities laid the wreath on the Monument to Meliton Kantaria and paid their respects to all the fallen in World War II.
Today, May 9, the world marks the 80th anniversary of the victory over fascism in WWII.
