Shalva Papuashvili Met Member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of China

The Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia H.E. Shalva Papuashvili met with a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China and Chairman of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), Wang Huning.
During the meeting, the parties noted the significant progress achieved in Georgia–China relations in recent years.
Special emphasis was placed on the Georgian Prime Minister’s visit to China in 2023, during which a joint declaration on the establishment of a strategic partnership was signed.
Shalva Papuashvili stated that Georgia and China share a commitment to protecting national sovereignty, peace, and security, and firmly support the principles of international law, strengthening the international order, and ensuring equality and mutual respect in international relations.
The Chinese side reaffirmed its strong support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The parties expressed readiness to further deepen bilateral relations and noted the considerable potential for cooperation between Georgia and China in all areas.
Attention was focused on the development of parliamentary ties, as well as cooperation in trade and economy, tourism, education, innovation, and culture.
According to Shalva Papuashvili, free trade is an important factor in promoting deeper cooperation.
The parties also underlined the importance of cooperation in connectivity, transport, and logistics in today’s turbulent world.
Georgia’s participation in China’s Belt and Road Initiative and the need to better utilize the potential of the Middle Corridor were also highlighted.
The meeting took place within the framework of Shalva Papuashvili’s official visit to the People’s Republic of China.
The delegation led by the Speaker of Parliament includes: First Vice Speaker of Parliament and Head of the Georgia–China Parliamentary Friendship Group Giorgi Volski; Vice Speakers Nino Tsilosani and Sozar Subari; Chair of the Foreign Relations Committee Nikoloz Samkharadze; and Chair of the Agriculture Committee Gela Samkharauli.
