Shalva Papuashvili Met with the OSCE PA President

The Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, H.E. Shalva Papuashvili, held a meeting with the OSCE PA President, Pere Joan Pons Sampietro.

Shalva Papuashvili welcomed the visit of the OSCE PA President and the accompanying delegation to Georgia and expressed gratitude for their willingness to engage in open and constructive dialogue. He also emphasized the importance of the objective report of OSCE/ODIHR on the 2024 parliamentary elections.

According to Mr. Papuashvili, Georgia is a committed and active OSCE member and will continue to support the organization’s activities.

Pere Joan Pons Sampietro stated that the OSCE PA serves as a common platform for dialogue and stressed that, in a world filled with challenges, it is important for the OSCE to maintain its relevance and be able to carry out effective activities.

He noted that the delegation’s visit to Georgia began with a trip to the occupation line and reaffirmed firm support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The parties also discussed political developments in Georgia in recent years and the legislative activities of the parliament. According to Shalva Papuashvili, the Parliament of Georgia adopts laws in response to ongoing developments in the country and actively works to safeguard Georgian democracy. He also reaffirmed the Georgian side’s readiness to continue implementing the recommendations of the OSCE/ODIHR. In this regard, Papuashvili mentioned the adoption of the new Electoral Code by parliament last year.

The parties confirmed their readiness to continue dialogue.

The meeting was also attended by the Vice-Speaker Ilia Injia; Head of the Georgian parliamentary delegation to the OSCE PA Nikoloz Samkharadze; member of the delegation and Chair of the Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Committee Maia Bitadze; and member of the delegation and Deputy Chair of the parliamentary political group “People’s Power”, Eka Sepashvili.
