Shalva Papuashvili Met with the Speaker of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan

The Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, H.E. Shalva Papuashvili, met with the Speaker of the Parliament of Turkmenistan – the Mejlis, Dünýägözel Gulmanova, who is paying an official visit to Georgia.

It was emphasized during the meeting that this marks the first visit of the Speaker of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan to Georgia and is important for the further development of bilateral cooperation between Georgia and Turkmenistan.

The parties noted that relations between Georgia and Turkmenistan have been developing successfully, as evidenced by the high-level visits conducted in recent years.

The sides discussed bilateral relations at the political level, as well as cooperation in the fields of economy, transport, tourism, and culture.

Special attention was paid to parliamentary cooperation. Within the framework of the visit, the parties signed an agreement on cooperation between the Parliament of Georgia and the Mejlis of Turkmenistan, aimed at further developing interparliamentary relations, particularly by strengthening ties between parliamentary friendship groups, sectoral committees, young parliamentarians, women parliamentarians, and parliamentary administrations.

The meeting also focused on cooperation in multilateral formats, including within the IPU and the OSCE PA.

Shalva Papuashvili stated that Georgia occupies an important place in the strategic transport corridor chain and is ready to cooperate with Turkmenistan in enhancing connectivity.

Dünýägözel Gulmanova noted that Turkmenistan firmly supports Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. She also expressed gratitude to the Georgian side for supporting Turkmenistan’s neutrality.
