Shalva Papuashvili met with the Foreign Affairs Minister of Turkmenistan

The Speaker of the Parliament, H.E. Shalva Papuashvili held a meeting with the Foreign Affairs Minister of Turkmenistan, Rashid Meredov.


The parties underlined the longstanding friendly relations between Georgia and Turkmenistan.


The dynamics of the high-level visits, including those of the Prime Minister of Georgia and the Speaker of Parliament to Turkmenistan, were positively assessed.


The two sides reviewed bilateral relations in the trade, economy, tourism, transport, energy and culture domains.


Mr. Papuashvili underscored the productive Parliamentary ties and highlighted the significance of the links between the Committees. The Speaker expressed his commitment to hosting his counterpart, the Speaker of the Mejlis, in Georgia.


Special emphasis was placed on the vital geographic location of the two countries in terms of the West-East connectivity. The discourse included the perspective of transport-energy projects.


The discussion covered developments in the South Caucasus and Central Asia. The parties emphasised the importance of a lasting peace.


The cooperation between Georgia and Turkmenistan within the United Nations framework was positively regarded. Mr Meredov affirmed Turkmenistan’s unwavering support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and expressed gratitude for its support of Turkmenistan’s neutrality status.


The meeting was attended by the Head of the Georgia-Turkmenistan Friendship Group, David Matikashvili, and the Ambassador of Georgia to Turkmenistan, H.E. Constantine Sabiashvili.
