The Human Rights and Civil Integration Committee deliberated on the Draft Law on Equality between Men and Women for the I reading

The Human Rights and Civil Integration Committee deliberated on and approved the Draft Law on Equality between Men and Women for the I reading.

Pursuant to the Draft, the Autonomous Republics become eligible to establish the Councils on Women and Children.

In accordance with the applicable edition of the Law, the municipal City Assembly shall ensure that the uninterrupted functioning of women's and children's issues and coordination with the Inter-Agency Commission on Equality of Men and Women and Violence against Women and Domestic Violence.

In view of the fulfillment of the aforementioned obligations, the Law provides the establishment of a respective municipal council on women and children; however, the applicable normative regulation fails to cover the Autonomous Republics.

As one of the authors of the Draft law, the Chair of the Education, Science and Youth Affairs Committee, Mariam Lashkhi elucidated, the legal initiative aims to fortify the legal mechanisms to facilitate the system enforcement of the equality policy and effective elimination of discrimination.
