
An event of the inclusive theatre “Contact” was held at the Tbilisi City Assembly, attended by the First Deputy Chair of the Education, Science and Youth Affairs Committee, Giorgi Chakvetadze, and Committee Member Vladimer Bozhadze.
Giorgi Chakvetadze addressed the participants of the event. He placed particular emphasis on inclusive education, noting that promoting inclusive education is a state priority. According to him, in recent years, significant steps have been taken by both the legislative and executive authorities in this direction.
He also spoke about the importance of the education reform, noting that inclusiveness of the learning process has been identified as one of the key challenges in the national concept of the reform.
Giorgi Chakvetadze highlighted the theatre’s activities and its international success, stating that the results achieved by the inclusive theatre are impressive.
“I would like to congratulate you on becoming, in 2025, the only inclusive theatre in the world to join the International Theatre Institute of UNESCO. This is recognition not only of the theatre, but of Georgia as a whole”, - Giorgi Chakvetadze stated.
Paintings, graphic works and photographs created by professional artists were exhibited in the Queen Tamar Hall of Tbilisi City Assembly, and the troupe of Theatre “Contact” presented a theatrical performance to the audience.
The aim of the event was to promote the integration and socialization of persons with special needs, to support the development of their creative and professional skills, and to ensure their equal participation in cultural life.
The event was attended by Chair of Tbilisi City Assembly Zurab Abashidze, Vice Mayor of Tbilisi Giorgi Tkemaladze, representatives of the executive authorities, the diplomatic corps, the City Assembly and Tbilisi City Hall, as well as invited guests.
The inclusive theatre “Contact” has been successfully operating since 2013.
The troupe unites professional drama and pantomime actors, as well as actors with special needs.
At present, the theatre’s repertoire includes 10 original productions, among them a work presented at the Beijing Drama Festival, which brought the theatre its first international success.
