The presentation of the second volume of the “Giant Books” project was held at the Ilia Chavchavadze Literary-Memorial Museum, attended by the Chair of the Culture Committee, Giorgi Gabunia.
Within the framework of the “Giant Books” project, the complete issues of the newspaper “Iveria” of 1887 have been republished.
The project aims, on the one hand, to preserve original copies safeguarded in the repositories of the National Library and, on the other hand, to increase and facilitate access to unique materials.
Giorgi Gabunia addressed the audience and spoke about the significance of the project.
“This publication is of great importance for literary scholars, historians, scientists, researchers, and for every individual who values our history and culture”, - Giorgi Gabunia stated.
The publication of the “Iveria” newspaper collections is funded by the Cartu Foundation. The Foundation plans to publish twenty annual collections of the newspaper “Iveria”, which was originally established at the initiative of Ilia Chavchavadze.
Giorgi Gabunia expressed his gratitude to the project’s author, Nodar Dugladze; the Director General of the National Library, Konstantine Gamsakhurdia; all project participants; and the Cartu Foundation for financing the project.
According to him, the Foundation has made a significant contribution to the development of Georgian culture and the arts.
The “Giant Books” project was launched in 2025 at the initiative of Nodar Dugladze, an employee of the National Library of Georgia. The project envisages the re-publication of 19th–20th century Georgian periodicals (journals and newspapers).
It includes the digitization of copies preserved both in the National Library and elsewhere (libraries, archives, and private collections), as well as their printing in the original format and size.
