The Culture Committee conducted a first reading of the proposed amendments to the Law of Georgia on Culture.
According to Deputy Minister of Culture, Beka Davituliani, the draft law aims to revise and clarify the provisions governing the funding and financial support mechanisms for individuals and legal entities operating in the cultural sector. The changes are intended to provide a clearer regulatory framework for disbursing financial support in the field.
Specifically, the Ministry of Culture—or the relevant Legal Entity of Public Law (LEPL) under its governance—will be empowered to implement financial support measures for cultural actors based on a ministerial decision, in accordance with procedures and conditions defined by the Minister.
“The proposed amendment adds two new paragraphs—7 and 8—to Article 29 of the Law. While currently the Ministry directly provides institutional funding and programme support within the cultural sector, the revised law will extend this authority to the LEPL as well, enabling it to provide funding in accordance with a decree issued by the Minister of Culture", - B. Davituliani elucidated.
The Committee expressed its support for the bill.
