The Interim Commission on Women and Children Affairs, at the fourth sitting, discussed the recommendation envisaging the replacement of the term “gender” in the policy documents with the term “equality between men and women”.
According to Mariam Lashkhi, Chair of the Commission, through the amendments introduced to the legislation in April 2025, the term ‘gender’ was removed from the relevant laws; however, the terms ‘gender’ and ‘gender-based’ are still used in policy documents.
At the Commission, it was recommended that the relevant agencies replace the term ‘gender’ in policy documents with the term ‘equality between men and women.’
“When preparing policy documents, as well as during the budget drafting process, the terms “gender” and “gender-based” should be replaced with the term recognized by the Constitution of Georgia — “equality between men and women”’, - stated Mariam Lashkhi.
The commission also reviewed and approved the membership, under the opposition quota, of members of the Faction ‘For Georgia’ — Ketevan Bakradze and Tamar Khvedeliani.
The sitting was attended by Niko Tatulashvili, Head of the Human Rights Department of the Government Administration, as well as representatives from the Parliamentary Budget Office, the Budget and Finance Committee, the Ministry of Finance, and the State Audit Office.
