Plenary 14 May 2025
The Draft Law on Diplomatic Service adopted by the Parliament

The Parliament discussed the Draft Law on Diplomatic Service in an expedited manner and adopted it with 87 votes.

According to Khatuna Totladze, the Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister, the amendments introduce the option for the extension of the rotation term for diplomatic officials and administrative personnel, with a maximum duration of one year.

As she noted, the technical amendments are being introduced to the norms of the Law that stipulate the long-term business trips through the rotation and the recall for the business trips.

The Draft envisages the establishment of the legal foundation for the endorsement of the ethical and behavioural rules based on the normative act of the Foreign Affairs Ministry, which shall thoroughly regulate the general ethical and behavioural rules for the central staff of the Ministry, as well as diplomatic representations and consular personnel.
