The Parliament discussed the Draft Law on the Protection of the Family Values and Minors for the II reading and approved it with 81 votes.
The Draft was introduced by MP Tengiz Sharmanashvili along with the elucidations about certain articles. As he noted, the concept of a family and related regulations are as well reflected in the Constitutions of other countries and shall not be considered as a religious category solely.
“Shall we succumb to the rhetorics of the opponents manipulating that a family is attributed to the religious category only, then a record about the family shall not exist in the Constitution as well. The lawmakers, as well as most of our citizens, have an opposite opinion and let me underline that this is the opinion of most of the world population as well about the concept of a family and hence, related regulations are introduced to the Constitutions of other countries and thus, it is not our “know-how”, - he stated.
Per his information, the steps taken were absolutely proper, following the line taking a start in 2017, when the concept of a family fell under regulation.
“Otherwise, we would encounter that this record remained ineffective, written words only. The family value still derives from the Constitution, carrying not a merely religious meaning. It cannot be explained by religious beliefs. So, we chase the correct path and undertake proper regulations for the benefit of the future of our country and the prevention of the threats that on a daily basis emerge as a hinder”, - he added.
