The Parliament approved the amendment concerning the electroshock device, sound (acoustic) weapon and gas aerosol

The Parliament deliberated for the I reading the Draft Law on Weapons and adopted it with 78 votes against one.

According to the draft law, the manufacture, purchase, possession, carrying, transportation, shipment, transfer, or sale of an electroshock device by a natural person or legal entity shall be prohibited. Electroshock devices may be allowed in civil circulation only in accordance with the procedure established by law, and only by an administrative body, organizations engaged in private security activities, or other natural persons or legal entities defined by law, for the purpose of exercising their lawful authority.

Under the draft, the import, manufacture (production), repair, export, re-export, or transit of gas aerosol devices and acoustic (sound) weapons, as well as trade in such weapons, will be subject to the relevant licensing/permit requirements provided by the legislation of Georgia.

According to the amendment, upon written consent issued by the territorial body of the Interior Ministry, the authority to purchase, import into Georgia, export from Georgia, carry, transport, or send an acoustic (sound) weapon and/or a gas aerosol device shall be granted only to persons who have reached 18 years of age.

The Draft is authored by the Interior Ministry and initiated by the Government.
