Parliament Adopted in I Reading the draft Law on Roads

At the plenary session of Parliament, Deputy Infrastructure Minister Mzia Giorgobiani presented, in the I reading, the draft law on Roads.

According to the draft law, the Ministry of Infrastructure of Georgia will be granted the authority to delegate, either fully or partially, the responsibility for the maintenance and upkeep of roads of international and domestic significance to a legal entity under private law operating under its management.

The draft law also stipulates that failure to comply with certain obligations related to roads will entail liability in accordance with the procedures established by the Administrative Offences Code.

According to Mzia Giorgobiani, the state-owned company will carry out maintenance and upkeep of infrastructure facilities located along the 105-kilometre Gori–Argveta section, including 138 bridges and 59 tunnels.

The Parliament adopted the draft law with 76 votes in favor.
