An event dedicated to the 175th anniversary of the birth of Ekaterine Gabashvili was held in the Parliament of Georgia
An event dedicated to the 175th anniversary of the birth of Ekaterine Gabashvili was held in the Parliament of Georgia, initiated by the Culture Committee.

Participants of the event were addressed with welcoming remarks by: the Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, Shalva Papuashvili; the Vice Speaker of Parliament, Nino Tsilosani; the Chair of the Culture Committee, Giorgi Gabunia; the Minister of Culture, Tinatin Rukhadze; and the General Director of the National Library, Konstantine Gamsakhurdia.

In their speeches, the speakers highlighted Ekaterine Gabashvili’s significant contribution to the development of Georgian literature, education, and public life. They spoke about her multifaceted creative work, her public and educational activities, and her important role in supporting women’s rights and education.

Within the framework of the anniversary event, a presentation was held of a collection of previously unknown letters and publications by Ekaterine Gabashvili, published on the initiative of the Parliament’s Culture Committee with the support of the National Library.

An exhibition space was also arranged, featuring materials reflecting Ekaterine Gabashvili’s life and work.

The event was attended by students and teachers from the public school of the village of Mepiskalaki in Kaspi municipality. As part of the anniversary year, the school will be named after Ekaterine Gabashvili.

Ekaterine Gabashvili was an active member of the Society for Spreading Literacy, one of the founders of the Writers’ Society, and a supporter of women’s education and rights.

The purpose of the anniversary event is to present and promote Ekaterine Gabashvili’s multifaceted creative and public legacy.
