The Parliamentary Political Group “Reforms Group” met with the representatives of the OSCE/ODIHR Needs Assessment Mission and discussed the pre-electoral milieu and the significance of the observation missions at the upcoming Parliamentary Elections.
“We touched upon the electoral milieu, the processes that unfold under the gravest conditions; numerous criminal cases have been initiated against the citizens. The law-enforcement agencies now serve as the leverage of the “Georgian Dream” for the implementation of their political assignments, and instead of ensuring public order, they violate the law themselves. The ruling party introduced new legal initiatives to further aggravate the electoral environment – to modify the decision-making mechanisms and simplify the control over the Central Election Commission. Hence, it is important to have as many as possible observers at the elections. We were told that it might take about a month to compose an observation group with the mission of a longstanding observation of the elections in Georgia. Now, we need to consolidate our forces in opposition to prevent the “Georgian Dream” from a chance to fraud the elections”, - Giorgi Vashadze noted.
