At a meeting of the Regional Policy and Self-Government Committee, Members of Parliament discussed the extension of the deadlines for loan agreements.
Deputy Infrastructure Minister, Mzia Giorgobiani, introduced the Letter-Agreement of Change No. 2 to the Loan Agreement of 27 November 2019 between Georgia and the ADB concerning the East–West Highway Improvement Project (Ordinary transactions).
According to the document submitted for ratification, the deadline for the loan closure and project completion will be extended.
The Deputy Minister noted that the main works of the project have already been completed; however, two important components remain pending: the pilot project for a dynamic weight control system on the East–West express highway, and the selection of a consulting company to prepare the road maintenance strategy and guideline document. For this reason, the project completion deadline has been extended from 30 June 2025 to 30 September 2027.
The First Deputy Economy and Sustainable Development Minister, Nino Enukidze, presented the Letter-Agreement of Change No. 2 to the Loan Agreement of 9 December 2019 between Georgia and ADB concerning the Livable Cities Investment Program (Ordinary transactions).
According to her, the extension of the project completion deadline was caused by the cancellation of certain tenders and the non-fulfillment of part of the technical assignments envisaged under the project.
Under the submitted document, the project completion date is planned for 31 May 2028 instead of 31 August 2025.
The Committee approved the documents.
