
The Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, Shalva Papuashvili, held an introductory meeting with the newly appointed UNICEF Representative in Georgia, Isabella Castrogiovanni.
Shalva Papuashvili stated that Georgia highly values its long-standing and productive cooperation with UNICEF.
Isabella Castrogiovanni highlighted the successful cooperation between Georgia and UNICEF during the development of the Child Rights Code. According to her, under the current programme document, child rights, education, healthcare, and social policy are identified as priority areas for Georgia. She also expressed readiness to work with the Parliament of Georgia on specific initiatives.
During the meeting, it was noted that Georgia is a member of the UNICEF Executive Board and will actively participate in its work.
Shalva Papuashvili briefed the new UNICEF representative on Georgia’s legislation concerning the activities of international organizations and donors.
The Speaker of Parliament wished Isabella Castrogiovanni success in her new position.
