“I extend my sincere congratulations on the Defense Forces Day of Georgia! The Defense Forces of the country carry a special mission - to stand as a watchdog with maintaining a vigilant presence at the front lines ready to defend the country against any potential adversaries or threats that may jeopardise our statehood”, - H.E. Shalva Papuashvili, Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, stated at the Defense Forces Day ceremony in Vaziani.

According to him, this mission acquires even greater significance against the current circumstances, particularly since Russia has occupied two regions of the country and Europe is currently experiencing the most extensive and brutal conflict since World War II, resulting in significant loss of life for three years and the proliferation of conflicts globally.

"In the current era of unprecedented challenges, it is imperative that we respond with a comprehensive and coordinated approach. Amidst the complexities and uncertainties of the world, it is the collective wisdom, divine providence, and unwavering unity of our society that will ultimately guide us through these turbulent times and lead us out of the deep waters. In our historical past, a pertinent lesson remains relevant today. Consequently, every citizen must recognise that, in conjunction with the national army, society also assumes a responsibility to safeguard the statehood, particularly in the contemporary era of hybrid warfare. The unwavering unity of the army, nation, civilians, and clergy forms a cornerstone upon which society stands as a pivotal guarantee for resilience, unity, and a robust defence capacity. Every citizen shall acknowledge that we are the soldiers of our homeland, united under one Flag, the Flag that proudly waves in your hands”, - he stated.

As per the Speaker’s statement, the Georgian state adheres to a steadfast policy of preserving peace. In the context of global unrest, achieving peace requires sustained efforts, profound wisdom, and exceptional skill.

“The aspiration of the authorities to avert the war threat and provocation is underpinned by the unwavering determination, persistence, and courage displayed by the Georgian army in every encounter. This aspiration is to manifest devotion and heroism in defending the homeland, engaging in combat alongside their comrades, and fulfilling the mission entrusted to them. We feel their morale, their support and commitment. Every soldier is indispensable and serves as a poignant reminder of our unwavering vigilance. In recent times, there has been substantial interest in transforming Georgia into a battleground amidst a global turmoil. It is imperative that all individuals take this lesson to heart and comprehend the consequences we have successfully averted”, - the Speaker underlined.

He addressed the family members and relatives of the military personnel who heroically fell in the line of duty.

“On this day of the Defense Forces, we also commemorate and pay tribute to the military personnel who have heroically fallen while exercising their duty. By their unwavering heroism, they successfully fenced out the fortress of freedom and independence for our nation. I extend my heartfelt condolences to their parents, children, and spouses. Your children, your fathers, and your husbands are our collective pride. We are deeply moved by their bravery and sacrifice. Once again, I extend my most sincere congratulations to all of you on this momentous occasion commemorating the Defence Forces. I assure you that we are committed to making the defence of our homeland a shared responsibility of every member of our society. The Defense Forces Day ceremony was attended by: H.E. Mikheil Kavelashvili, the President of Georgia; H.E. Irakli Kobakhidze, Prime Minister; Mr. Irakli Chikovani, the Defense Minister; Major General Giorgi Matiashvili, the Commander of the Defence Forces of Georgia; as well as the representatives of the legislative and executive authorities.
