
The Committee discussed the sport psychology and the related issues. The President of the Non-Entrepreneurial (Non-Commercial) Legal Entity Dimitri Uznadze Institute of Psychology, Ana Arveladze, and the Professor of the LEPL State Teaching University of Physical Education and Sport, Ketevan Inasaridze introduced the state of sport psychology in the country.
As the reporters noted, sport psychology is a key aspect of the physical and mental training of athletes and plays an imperative role in the mental and emotional condition thereof upon the competitions.
According to A. Arveladze, one of the acute challenges in this sphere is awareness.
“Today, sport psychology is at its initial stage in Georgia and hence, encounters lots of challenges. The state ensures immense investments to achieve high productivity of athletes and thus, it is paramount to take strategic steps for raising awareness on sport psychology”, - she noted.
The Deputy Culture Minister and the representatives of Sports Federations expressed their positions.
According to Committee member, Mikheil Kavelashvili, the coaches/trainers shall, at the initial stage, get special knowledge on sport psychology since they are in direct communication with athletes. As he added, every direction of sports requires an individual approach and the federations shall gradually ensure the inculcation of sport psychology.
The Chair of the Committee, Irakli Medzmariashvili summed up the discussion.
“All issues cannot be solved at an instance but we heard interesting positions today and revealed various approaches. The sports federations were informed about sport psychology and the Committee, upon a new sports season, intends to undertake numerous supportive activities”, - he stated and thanked the attendees for participation.
