The ASEAN Interparliamentary Assembly (AIPA), during its 46th annual session, held a hearing on the report on Georgia, introduced by Nikoloz Samkharadze, Chair of the Foreign Relations Committee, along with the country's lingering tendencies.

The reporter reviewed the economic, political and social states in Georgia and dwelt on the successful reforms undertaken in various domains.

Special emphasis was placed on improved accessibility to state services and tax and anticorruption reforms.

“The report on Georgia was deliberated within the ASEAN Interparliamentary Assembly, where I had the opportunity to discuss the country’s developments. I informed my colleagues of the successful reforms undertaken in various areas, including the economic, political and social spheres”.

Mr. Samkharadze provided the account on the investment potential of Georgia, as well as the energy, transport and transit capacities. He underlined the significance of the middle corridor project.

In his report, N. Samkharadze highlighted the foreign political priorities, including preparations to access the EU by 2030, security challenges, the grave situation in the regions occupied by Russia and the Russia-Georgia conflict. He also outlined the potential solutions.

The AIPA member states’ delegations expressed their unwavering support for the territorial integrity of Georgia.

As noted, they enjoy positive political relationships with Georgia and expressed their commitment to enhancing cooperation in the trade, economic, cultural and tourism spheres.

They extended their preference for Georgia to serve bilateral visits to Southeast Asian countries on an enhanced schedule.

“All the delegations emphasised their desire to enhance relations with Georgia in bilateral and multilateral formats and expressed their commitment to intensifying cooperation in various spheres. They affirmed their support for the territorial integrity of Georgia, emphasising that it is a fundamental principle of international law and their position is unwavering”, - N. Samkharadze noted.

The session was attended by the Parliamentary delegations of Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, Indonesia, the Philippines, Cambodia and Brunei.
