Beka Odisharia: We highly value the support of the Irish government on our path to European integration

The visit of the members of the Diaspora and Caucasus Issues Committee of the Parliament of Georgia continues in the Republic of Ireland. The Chairman of the Committee, Beka Odisharia, along with committee members Nodar Turdzeladze, Resan Kontselidze, and Fridon Injia, held a meeting with the head of the friendship group of the Parliament of Ireland – Head of the Friendship Group of Oireachtas with Georgia, Senator Diarmuid Wilson.

Senator Diarmuid Wilson congratulated his Georgian colleagues on Georgia being granted the status of an EU membership candidate and wished them further success in the direction of European integration.

The Chairman of the Diaspora and Caucasus Issues Committee, Beka Odisharia, expressed gratitude to his colleague for congratulating Georgia and particularly highlighted the contributions of the head of the friendship group, Senator Diarmuid Wilson, and Senator Gerard Craughwell, to Georgia's path toward European integration. Beka Odisharia noted that it was due to their initiative that in June 2022, the Senate of Ireland adopted a resolution supporting Georgia, urging the European Union to grant Georgia the status of a candidate country for the European Union. Beka Odisharia emphasized that the support of the Irish authorities in this process is highly valuable for Georgia.

Senator Diarmuid Wilson, as the head of the friendship group with the Parliament of Georgia, expressed his satisfaction with the growing intensity of relations between the legislative bodies of Georgia and Ireland, which is evident through the current visit.

Towards the end of the meeting, Beka Odisharia informed the members of the friendship group about a significant diaspora economic forum scheduled for May next year in Tbilisi. The MP expressed his hope that they could attend the forum and share their Irish experience.

The meeting was also attended by Giorgi Zurabashvili, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to the Republic of Ireland, representatives of the embassy, and members of the friendship group of the Parliament of Ireland with the Parliament of Georgia.
