Education, Science and Youth Affairs Committee Discussed Amendments to the Law on Higher Education in the II Reading

The Education, Science and Youth Affairs Committee discussed, in the II reading and under an expedited procedure, the draft law “On Amendments to the Law of Georgia on Higher Education”.

According to the amendments, students enrolled before 17 December 2025 will, during the transitional period (through the 2030–2031 academic year), retain not only the funding they have already obtained, but will also be given the opportunity to obtain and improve such funding.

According to the presenter, Deputy Education, Science and Youth Minister Zviad Gabisonia, the years 2030–2031 have been defined as the transitional stage because by that period the system will have fully transitioned to the new funding model.

The committee approved the presented draft law.
