Presentation of the “Hero’s Day” Project Initiated by the Interim Commission on Women's and Children's Issues Held in Shuakhevi

The presentation of the “Hero’s Day” project, initiated by the Interim Commission on Women's and Children's Issues, was held at the Shuakhevi School of Youth and Arts in Zemo Ajara.

Chair of the Commission Mariam Lashkhi addressed the audience and spoke about the significance of the project.

According to Mariam Lashkhi, in recent years Georgia, as well as the wider region, has faced numerous challenges, making the preservation of Georgia’s national identity and distinct cultural heritage increasingly important.

"Countries such as Georgia, with their rich history and longstanding traditions, face the risk that centuries-old traditions, national identity and historical heritage may be eroded amid today’s challenges. The Government of Georgia has made a clear commitment to ensuring that the reforms implemented in recent years are aimed at strengthening the state and preserving our national identity. This is precisely the purpose of the project initiated by the Interim Commission on Women's and Children's Issues, through which young people learn about Georgia’s historical heroes and other outstanding figures, expanding their knowledge of the nation’s history and heritage”, - Mariam Lashkhi stated.

As part of the event, Fridon Davitadze, Head of the Education, Culture, Sports, Tourism and Youth Affairs Service of the Shuakhevi Municipality City Hall and a historian, delivered a lecture entitled “The Beginning of the Georgian National Liberation Movement in South-Western Georgia.” His presentation focused on the life and legacy of Selim Khimshiashvili, a prominent nineteenth-century public figure.
