Levan Makhashvili Addressed the 33rd Annual Session of the OSCE PA

Chair of the EU Integration Committee, Levan Makhashvili, delivered an address during the 33rd Annual Session of the OSCE PA.
As he noted, excessive politicisation transforms the OSCE's institutions and mechanisms from platforms for security and cooperation into instruments of selective political retribution.
"The credibility of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly is not an abstract concept; it is the very foundation of its authority. When issues concerning Georgia are considered through the prism of short-term headlines rather than verified facts, we not only distort reality, but also undermine the institution we are all here to serve.
The OSCE/ODIHR Election Observation Mission did not conclude that elections in Georgia were rigged. Nevertheless, this Assembly is now preparing to misrepresent the findings of the OSCE/ODIHR.
The Moscow Mechanism report established nothing beyond referring to allegations. Nevertheless, this Assembly intends to present those allegations as established facts.
In Georgia, both violent demonstrators and representatives of law enforcement agencies have been held legally accountable. Nevertheless, this Assembly intends to claim that the so-called 'peaceful' demonstrators burned down the Parliament building, attacked the Presidential Palace, and injured hundreds of police officers.
Such excessive politicisation turns the OSCE's institutions and mechanisms, instead of serving as platforms for security and cooperation, into instruments of selective political retribution.
Double standards do not strengthen the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly. On the contrary, they erode it from within.
When resolutions on Georgia become a vehicle for disseminating unsubstantiated allegations and one-sided interpretations, we lose the trust of those states that regard the OSCE as an impartial actor and an honest mediator.
Increasingly, countries perceive the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly not as a defender of shared principles, but as a promoter of a selective political agenda. The result is reduced participation, weakened cooperation, and the gradual marginalisation of the Assembly. In doing so, we undermine the legitimacy of the very organisation we are entrusted to uphold.
Dear colleagues, if we want the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly to preserve its credibility, our only compass must be facts, facts, and facts alone”, - Levan Makhashvili stated.
The Georgian parliamentary delegation, led by the Chair of the Foreign Relations Committee, Nikoloz Samkharadze, is on an official visit to The Hague, where the 33rd Annual Session of the OSCE PA is taking place.
The delegation also includes Chair of the Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Committee Maia Bitadze, Chair of the EU Integration Committee Levan Makhashvili, and Eka Sepashvili, Deputy Chair of the parliamentary political group “People's Power”.
