Members of the Interim Commission on Women's and Children's Issues Visited Inclusive Education and Day Centres for Persons with Disabilities in Keda and Shuakhevi
Chair of the Interim Commission on Women's and Children's Issues Mariam Lashkhi, Members of Parliament, and the Minister of Education and Sports of Ajara AR, Maia Khajishvili, visited the Day Centre for Persons with Disabilities in Shuakhevi and the Inclusive Education Centre in Keda, Zemo Ajara.

The parliamentary delegation familiarised itself with the activities of the centres and the implementation of their specialised programmes.

"The Keda Inclusive Education Centre is a unique model integrated into a public school. It serves not only the beneficiaries of a particular school but the entire municipality. One of the Centre's distinguishing features is its use of art therapy to support psycho-emotional well-being, contributing to the development of its beneficiaries. During our discussions, it was noted that one of the principal challenges is the shortage of qualified professionals, particularly psychologists and occupational therapists. This clearly demonstrates the need to shape future admission quotas in the education sector so that these fields receive greater emphasis within undergraduate education and professional development programmes”, - stated Mariam Lashkhi.

According to her, the integration model implemented at the Shuakhevi Day Centre is also noteworthy, as it promotes joint initiatives involving children with typical and atypical development.

During their visit to the Inclusive Education Centre and the Day Centre for Persons with Disabilities, the Members of Parliament viewed paintings, feltwork and tapestry pieces created by the beneficiaries.
