Culture Committee Discusses Amendments to Committee Statute and Establishment of Advisory Council

At the session of the Culture Committee, members reviewed and endorsed amendments to the Committee’s Statute.

According to Committee Chair Giorgi Gabunia, a new subparagraph “k” will be added, which is formulated as follows: Within the scope of its constitutional and statutory competence, the Culture Committee shall closely cooperate with the mayors of municipalities and the non-commercial (non-profit) legal entities — cultural organisations — operating under their supervision. Within this framework, the Committee shall support these organisations.

“Municipalities have established non-commercial legal entities in the form of cultural organisations. These institutions represent a significant share of the cultural sector, promoting and developing various branches of culture locally. These N(N)LEs are not part of the Ministry of Culture’s system. Our aim is to cooperate with these cultural organisations and support their development and advancement", - Giorgi Gabunia stated.

The Committee also approved the establishment of two consultative councils under the Culture Committee: one for Georgian traditional and professional arts, and another for cultural heritage. The composition of both councils was confirmed during the sitting.
