The Committee keeps the interviewing the candidates for the Supreme Court Judges. Today, the Committee heard another candidate, Zaza Tavadze.

According to the bio-sketch, introduced by the Committee Chair, Anri Okhanashvili, the candidate counts 20 years of professional experience. He has worked: as the Deputy Minister of Justice of Georgia within 2008-2010, as the Deputy Chair of the Constitutional Court of Georgia within 2010-2016, and has been the Chair of the Constitutional Court of Georgia since 2016. 

Pursuant to the procedure, Zaza Tavadze addressed the Committee: “I am ready to provide comprehensive answers to any question and expect the process to be gainful and constructive. I accept my colleagues' views about this process and believe that this is a really unprecedented process when you, the direct representatives of democracy, elect indirect democracy representatives, called the Judges of the Supreme Court”.

The questions to the candidate concerned: his higher education, property declaration, work experience at the Ministry of Justice, his decisions made while at the Constitutional Court, main criteria of the Supreme Court Judges, new Constitution and its clauses, challenges to Judges with life-time tenure, the Supreme Court practices and a variety of legal issues.

MPs asked about his opinion regarding: the forms of governance in the country in 2003 - 2012, possible influence of the media on the activities of the judge, developments of November 7, 2007, fairness and justice of the moratorium on pardoning announced by the President.

The interview was attended by: Majority Factions and opposition Factions, independent MPs, representatives of Public Defender, NGOs Coalition, Legal Aid Service and Bar Association. The candidate answered the question of the citizen voiced by the Committee Chair, Anri Okhanashvili.
The interview was held according to the American model and monitored by OSCE/ODIHR representation.
