Mariam Jashi: Efforts of the diplomatic community are breaking the ice, dialogue may be renewed

Following the morning meeting at the Residence of the EU Ambassador, Mariam Jashi, Chairperson of the Independent MPs Fraction notes that the great efforts of the diplomatic community have broken the ice and the possibility of renewing the formal dialogue has emerged.

“I would like to extend special thanks to Ms. Elizabeth Roods -Deputy Chief of Mission of the US Embassy in Georgia, Mr. Carl Hartzell - Head of EU Delegation and Mr. Hubert Knirsch - Ambassador of Germany to Georgia. Its due to the efforts of the diplomatic community, friends of Georgia, that the dialogue on the electoral system might be renewed.

Today different political parties suggested and discussed new proposals on the electoral system. However, its too early to announce any concrete, final position.

It is the common responsibility of the meeting participants, that no principal proposal is openly discussed, until a concrete offer is submitted to the formal dialogue table.

Preliminary announcement of incorrect or unconfirmed information may hinder the dialogue. This would mean that the political consensus may not be reached and Georgia will remain subject to political instability risks for the next 4-5 years” - noted MP Mariam Jashi.
